Trucking Operations

Nuts & Bolts: Kansas-based Interstate Insurance Management and Swiss Re’s Commercial Insurance announce the immediate expansion of their insurance program for the trucking industry into Virginia and Indiana. The program, which has been in operation since 1970, provides coverage for the trucking industry and targets all size fleets with distances that range from local to long haul. Coverages include auto liability and physical damage, motor truck cargo and general liability. Auto liability has a combined single limit of $1 million while auto physical damage is $250,000 per tractor-trailer combination, cargo, $250,000.

Dollars: $1 million/$2 million.

Monoline Auto Classes, Small Businesses

Nuts & Bolts: Zurich’s small business agents now have more than 500 monoline auto classes to sell. The company announced it has opened an additional 257 existing America Premier classes for monoline auto and added 238 new primary monoline-only classes. The new monoline-only classes consist of service, wholesale, office, manufacturing and trade market segments. Combined with Zurich’s 40 existing construction classes, more than 500 monoline primary auto classes and nearly 1,300 subclasses are now available for small commercial auto agents. To further aid agents’ penetration into the trades, manufacturing and wholesale market segments, Zurich is expanding underwriting guidelines for heavy and extra-heavy trucks, from the current 20 percent of all vehicles to 50 percent (maximum of 10 vehicles per policy with heavy and extra heavy).

Agents and Brokers E&O Program

Nuts & Bolts: Victor O. Schinnerer & Company Inc. announces their new insurance agents and brokers errors and omissions program. This program targets small to mid-size property/casualty agents and brokers, and can accommodate agencies with up to $25 million in annual premium volume. Agencies best suited for the program handle personal lines and small commercial business. Eligible agencies must generate at least 60 percent of their revenue from the placement of property and casualty business. Eligible agents are those with up to 35 percent of specialty or surplus lines premium. Agencies with life, accident and health business may be written, provided that premium volume does not exceed 40 percent. Wholesalers are not eligible for coverage under the program.

Dollars: Up to $2 million.

Carrier: General Star Management Co., rated “A++” by A.M. Best. Admitted. For prior acts and insolvency coverages, placement with carriers rated “B+” or better by A.M. Best are available for qualified risks.

Commercial Vehicle Insurance

Nuts & Bolts: National Interstate Insurance Corporation announced that it now offers commercial vehicle insurance coverage in Ohio. The product will be offered exclusively through the National Interstate network of appointed agents. Appointed agents will be given exclusive access to the company’s internal, proprietary Web-based rating system. National Interstate is now seeking to significantly expand its agent representation throughout the state of Ohio with interested parties. The National Interstate commercial vehicle product line is designed specifically for small businesses, offering bodily injury limits of up to $1 million. Recognizing the commercial consumers’ market as one with widely varying vehicles, drivers and trade types.

Personal Auto/Basic Renters Program

Nuts & Bolts: Arrowhead General Insurance Agency Inc.’s non-standard auto and Basic renters programs, both with “A” rated admitted carriers, are now available to Michigan producers. Highlights of the personal auto program include: bridging capability from ACS2000 to Arrowhead Exchange, Arrowhead’s online portal for quoting, binding and submitting new business and servicing existing policies, (www.ArrowheadAgents.com); online policy information and electronic endorsement submissions via Arrowhead Exchange; online payments available for insureds at www.AGIAPAY.com and optional coverages for uninsured motorist bodily injury available. Highlights of the basic renters program include: non-underwritten, no installment fees, annual policy term, one-month down/monthly installments; $25,000 liability included, $50,000 and $100,000 available for additional premium and premiums as low as 42 cents per day.

Dollars: Basic renters – $10,000 up to $40,000.

Retail Furniture Store Program

Nuts & Bolts: San Antonio, Texas-based Argonaut Group’s Select Markets segment launched a new program for the retail furniture store marketplace. Highlights of the Retail Furniture Store Insurance Program include property coverage with optional deductible levels and business income coverage valued at actual loss sustained. Optional additions include Retail Furniture Advantage endorsement that offers several broad property coverages on one convenient form. The program also offers workers’ compensation guaranteed cost plans, general liability, earthquake, and computer coverage. Preferred clients for this program include stores with excellent property maintenance, strong financial indicators, and willingness to implement loss prevention recommendations.

Dollars: Up to $1 million per occurrence;$5 million aggregate.

Carrier: Rated “A” by A. M. Best. Admitted.

States: All except Ala., Fla., Hawaii., La., and Miss.
