After becoming aware of a company selling fraudulent auto policies on the Internet, Connecticut Insurance Commissioner Susan F. Cogswell is warning car owners to double-check to ensure that companies are properly licensed in Connecticut before purchasing auto insurance. Only automobile liability coverage purchased from a licensed insurance company satisfies Connecticut’s motor vehicle responsibility law. The Insurance Department issued a cease and desist order to Puget’s Sound Agricultural Society Limited, located in Winters, Calif., after receiving a complaint from the Department of Motor Vehicles. Membership through Puget’s Sound does not satisfy Connecticut law.
