Allstate Corp. may lay off as many as 80 of its employees in Austin as a result of the company’s decision to merge its Austin-based Columbia Universal Life division into Allstate Financial Group by September.
The Austin American-Statesman reported that some of those employees may be absorbed by other units while the rest will be provided with severance pay and job-search assistance. The company has roughly 140 employees in the Austin area. Allstate acquired Columbia when it bought American Heritage Life in 1999. Many services provided by Columbia are duplicated by Allstate Financial Group.
