The Houston Chapter of CPCU, a longtime supporter of an inner city school in Houston, Bruce Elementary, recently donated 12 violins (with all the accessories/cases) to the school’s orchestra. After noticing the orchestra’s worn instruments, especially the violins, at a performance by the students at the chapter’s Christmas luncheon, the group made the commitment to help out the orchestra. The chapter was informed by Bruce teachers that since funding is limited and the school needs many repairs, instruments are far down on the list of the school’s priorities. In its quest to find funding for new instruments, the group decided that, in lieu of speakers’ gifts at their monthly luncheon and annual conferment, it would purchase the instruments and donate them to the school in the speakers’ honor. Students and teachers were delighted, presenting the donors with an impromptu concert when the instruments were delivered.
