The Louisiana Attorney General’s Office Investigations Division announced that a statewide sweep resulted in the arrests of 12 people for allegedly falsifying workers’ compensation documents and, in some cases, illegally collecting benefit checks. Although some of those arrested admitted to wrongdoings, others have refused to cooperate, the AG’s office said. The investigations were conducted with the help of the Department of Labor, which oversees workers’ compensation benefits for the state. Charges against the suspects range from misrepresentation to theft to insurance fraud. Lloyd H. Mulina of Baton Rouge, James R. Hull of Port Allen, Johnnie Marshall of Ouachita Parish, John D. Wheat of Livingston and Lynn Dawn Desadier of Westwego were each charged with one count of misrepresentation concerning benefits. Clifton Grady of New Orleans and Joel W. Tyler of New Orleans were each charged with one count of insurance fraud. Venus Lee of Destrehan was charged with one count of misrepresentation of benefits and one count of forgery. Roy Cutrer of Tangipahoa Parish, Debra Smith of Effie, Carrie Bibins of Alexandria and Rudolph T. Brown, Sr., of New Orleans were each charged with one count of misrepresentation concerning benefits and one count of theft.
