
The Main Street America Group announced the promotions of Ed Kuhl and Toni Porterfield to senior vice presidents, the promotion of Jack Crawford to assistant vice president, and the appointments of Bill Garvey to assistant secretary and Steve Sauthoff to assistant actuary.

Kuhl has been promoted to senior vice president, chief financial officer. Kuhl joined the company in 1988 as controller. He was appointed as chief financial officer in 2002. Kuhl is responsible for the oversight of all financial activities including the accounting, treasury, tax, planning and internal audit functions.

Porterfield has been promoted to senior vice president, human resources. Porterfield joined Main Street America in May 2004 as vice president of human resources. She is responsible for human resources services throughout the organization.

Crawford has been promoted to assistant vice president, corporate counsel. Crawford joined the company in 1976 and has held several positions within the organization including assistant secretary and corporate counsel; manager, of commercial insurance products; lead underwriter; and district marketing manager.

Garvey has been appointed as assistant secretary, systems analysis and programming. Most recently, he was director, systems analysis and programming.
Sauthoff has been appointed as assistant actuary. Sauthoff joined Main Street America last July as director, personal lines pricing. Prior to that, Sauthoff was a director and regional product manager for Encompass Insurance.
The Main Street America Group operates National Grange Mutual Insurance Company, Old Dominion Insurance Company and Main Street America Assurance Company. It has corporate offices in Keene, N.H., and Jacksonville, Fla.
The Liquor Liability Joint Underwriting Association of Massachusetts in Westboro, Mass., has named Dana C. Marchant to the position of vice president of claims. Marchant previously served as director of field services at Renaissance Alliance Insurance Services in Wellesley. Before that, he was vice president, Southern New England claims at One Beacon Insurance Co. The LLJUA is a last-resort liquor liability insurance provider.
Patrick Morris has joined Professional Underwriters of Trooper, Pa., where he will serve as senior underwriter for the Textbook Insurance Program managing the Mountain, Southwestern and Western states territories. He prevoiously was in the environmental division at XL Insurance.
William E. Donnell has been named chief marketing officer for Kansas City, Mo.-based commercial insurer GE Insurance Solutions with responsibilities for customer service, brand management, new product introductions, customer segmentation and client support. Most recently, Donnell served as global casualty leader, leading product strategy for all casualty insurance and reinsurance lines. He previously served as the business unit leader for the programs, excess workers’ compensation and excess and surplus lines units.
Edward Levy has been promoted to president and chief executive officer of all the DVUA subsidiaries ofPenn Independent Corporation.
Jason M. Waksman has been promoted to senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer of Penn Independent Corporation and all its subsidiaries.
Penn Independent Corporation, located in Hatboro, Pa., is a U.S. wholesale broker comprised of six major businesses, including: the DVUA subsidiaries, wholesale agencies primarily providing excess and surplus lines policies; Residential Underwriting Agency Inc., a specialist in personal lines; Apex Insurance Agency Inc., a specialty and reinsurance broker for municipalities and government agencies; Stratus Insurance Services Inc., a niche association based broker; Summit Risk Services Inc., a third party claims administrator; and Penn Independent Financial Services Inc., a premium finance company. Penn Independent Corporation is a member company of United America Indemnity Ltd.
Shortly after his promotion to president and CEO, Levy announced new management assignments.
Rita Hanebury assumes responsibility as vice president/manager. Hanebury’s previous title was vice president/assistant manager. She will continue to oversee DVUA’s property and casualty department. Hanebury has been working in the insurance industry for 33 years and has been employed at DVUA since 1976.
Judy Klingerman takes on the role of supervising the brokerage division with emphasis on achieving new and renewal business production goals. Klingerman continues to manage the administrative functions in her role as vice president. She has 15 years of underwriting and management experience.
Joel Kaplan becomes binding authority manager, while he maintains his role as a vice president in the property and casualty department. Kaplan’s responsibilities include managing carrier and broker relationships, guiding DVUA’s employees through placements with carriers, and training underwriters. He has 20 years of insurance experience.
ACE USA, the U.S.-based retail operating division of The ACE Group of Companies, announced the appointment of David J. Brosnan as president, ACE Casualty Risk. Based in Philadelphia, Brosnan will lead the casualty risk operations. Brosnan most recently served as senior vice president for Chubb Commercial Insurance in Europe.
Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc. announced the resignation of Peter F. Garvey, co-president of Marsh, the company’s risk and insurance services subsidiary. The company said the resignation was for personal reasons. William A. Malloy, co-president of Marsh, will become its president. Philip V. Moyles Jr., executive vice president of Marsh, will become head of Marsh’s North America Region and will continue his responsibilities as head of Global Client Development. On Nov. 8, 2004, when Roger E. Egan resigned as president and chief operating officer of Marsh Inc., Malloy and Garvey were named co-presidents to succeed him.
Burns & Wilcoxnamed Richard Giordano senior underwriter in its Parsippany, N.J., office. The announcement was made by New Jersey branch manager, Susan Harris. Giordano is responsible for new business production, underwriting and developing new relationships with agencies and carriers. Prior to joining Burns & Wilcox Giordano served as producer with a wholesale insurance broker in Livingston, N.J.
