Minneapolis, Minn.-based ING named Susan Anderson president and CEO of ING Trust USA. Anderson will report to ING Advisors Network President Valerie Brown.
Anderson will lead the growth and development of personal trust and directed institutional trusts nationally. ING Trust USA works in conjunction with the broker-dealers of ING and ING’s retirement services business.
Anderson brings 15 years of multi-disciplined experience in financial and legal services, estate planning and consulting, trust administration, sales, and general business management to ING Trust. Previously, she served as vice president and manager of personal trust services for M&I Trust Co. in Minnesota. Prior to that position, she was a vice president and regional account manager for Comerica Bank and Trust. In addition to working in various capacities within Wells Fargo and U.S. Bank, Anderson has worked at Clifton, Gunderson CPA firm, and a regional law firm.
The Hanover Insurance Group Inc. named Doug Eden president for the firm’s Midwest Region. Eden will work out of the The Hanover’s Chicago office.
Eden’s insurance career includes roles in underwriting, accounting and finance, and small and middle-market marketing and distribution with several insurers, including USF&G, Fireman’s Fund and, most recently, CNA, where he was senior vice president of property and casualty distribution management. Eden was responsible for the overall management of CNA’s independent agent and national broker strategies and compensation.
Progressive Corp. appointed John P. Sauerland president of the Progressive Direct Group of Insurance Companies. He replaces Alan R. Bauer, who had been president of the direct operations since 2002. Bauer left the company last month.
Sauerland, who currently serves as the claims general manager for the Midwest region, first joined Progressive full time in 1991 as an assistant product manager. He served as the auto product manager for various states as well as the general manager for Mississippi, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
The Sauerland appointment is one on a series of top level management changes made by the company recently.
Aon Corp. appointed Nadine Moore as vice president and originator, and Michael O’Brien vice president and director for the firm’s Public Entity Practice.
In her role as vice president and originator, Moore will focus on serving and attracting financial institutions, technology firms and professional services clients in the Chicago area. Previously, Moore was vice president of strategic projects, where she worked directly for David Bolger, CFO. Moore led several large finance initiatives, including the consolidation of Aon’s financial systems and the firm’s Sarbanes-Oxley initiative.
Before joining Aon, Moore served as senior manager at Accenture, where she managed several global initiatives in the enterprise resource management arena.
O’Brien joins Aon from Unisys, where he was client relationship executive responsible for assisting Illinois’ local and state government entities create and implement IT strategies. Before that, he was the area general manager for Xerox Corp., specializing in state and local government relationships in Illinois.
O’Brien will be responsible for expanding the Public Entity Practice Group, and managing relationships between government entities and Aon’s risk management professionals.
The Ohio Department of Insurance announced the appointment of Peg Ising as deputy director. Ising replaces Holly Saelens, who left the department to take a job in the private sector.
Ising has worked at the department for over 23 years serving as assistant director of the Property and Casualty Division and most recently as assistant director of Life and Health. As deputy director, Ising will oversee the department’s administrative functions and will continue to play an important role in crafting life and health policy. Ising has, on an interim basis, overseen the department’s Licensing, Consumer Services, and Financial Regulation Divisions.
Harleysville Insurance made promotions at its new Midwest operation headquartered in Itasca, Ill. They are: William D. Granato, regional president; Richard A. Schumacher Jr., regional vice president of commercial lines business development; Todd A. White, regional vice president of commercial lines underwriting; Jeffrey D. Brown, resident vice president-Michigan (based in Traverse City, Mich.); Douglas J. Holtz, resident vice president-Indiana and Ohio (based in Carmel, Ind.); Robert S. Wendt Jr., resident vice president-Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota (based in Edina, Minn.).
The Midwest region includes existing offices in Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota and the new location in Illinois. William D. Granato will manage the remaining states in the Midwest region. The Itasca office serves as the hub for the firm’s Midwest regional operation.
Schumacher was regional marketing manager for Crum & Forster Insurance’s Chicago office before joining Harleysville. Prior to that, he was the manager of Zurich Insurance’s construction branch in Detroit, Mich. He began his 14-year insurance career with Great American Insurance Company.
White served as underwriting director for the Chicago branch of CNA Insurance prior to joining Harleysville. Before that, he was with The St. Paul Companies as a Midwest commercial underwriting manager.
Brown joined Harleysville in 1995 as general manager of its Traverse City office. Two years later, he was named resident vice president of that office. Most recently, he was vice president of commercial lines for Harleysville Lake States, a position he’s held since 2000.
Holtz has been with Harleysville since 1994, when he joined the firm to assist with the founding of the Carmel, Ind., office. Most recently, he was the office’s commercial lines manager. Before that he, too, was with the former Meridian Insurance Company.
Wendt joined Harleysville’s Minnesota operation (formerly Minnesota Fire & Casualty Insurance Co.) in 1983 from Travelers Insurance. His primary responsibility has been commercial lines, but he also has managed the office’s personal lines and marketing functions at various times.
