New Jersey police arrested 16 people Monday on charges they falsely reported their cars stolen from the Willowbrook Mall in Wayne, New Jersey.
The suspects reportedly operated independently, and many never collected insurance proceeds. The alleged false reports took place between July 1996 and January 1999. Many of the vehicles reported stolen were luxury models, including BMWs and Lexus. All 16 suspects were charged with third-degree crimes carrying a sentence of up to five years in prison.
