Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Diane Koken announced that her Department has introduced a system to enable insurance companies to “submit filings for many lines of commercial insurance over the Internet through Pennsylvania’s award-winning PA PowerPort.”
Called the “System for Electronic rate and Form Filing” (SERFF), it gives insurers that do business in the state the capability of submitting policy forms and rate filings for general and commercial auto policies online.
SERFF is a licensed system of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and offers insurers a single entry point for multiple state filings. It allows state regulators to complete their evaluation, review and approval process electronically. A complete database helps eliminate incomplete filings.
The new system promises to speed up processing time and efficiency between the Department and the insurers. While currently available only for auto related products, Koken said that eventually the Department will be ready to accept many lines of business and types of insurance filings electronically.
The site can be accessed through the PA PowerPort at: www.state.pa.us, or directly at: www.insurance.state.pa.us, or by logging on to the SERFF website at: www.serff.com.
