N.Y. Brokers Offered Licensing Renewal via the Internet

July 26, 2002

New York Superintendent of Insurance Gregory Serio announced that all of New York’s approximately 35,000 authorized brokers now have the ability to renew their licenses electronically via the internet 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“The Department continues to build on our online licensing capabilities to make both the application and renewal process the most effective and efficient for all producers,” Serio remarked. “I am pleased to add the broker renewals as the final piece to this progressive Department initiative.”

Earlier this year the Department launched an online capability for all agents and brokers to apply for original licenses, while online renewal licensing for life and accident health agents went online last year and this past February an on-line renewal application for property casualty agents was rolled out.

“I am thoroughly pleased with the Department’s ability to utilize the latest in technology to meet the needs of New York’s producers,” Serio added. “Most importantly, producers are utilizing this new capability. In fact, 60 percent of property casualty agents renewed online earlier this year and many agents took advantage of this flexibility and actually renewed their licenses after hours and on weekends. Since Monday, when the broker renewal went into full production, over 150 brokers have renewed online. This is exactly what I had anticipated—brokers are taking advantage of this electronic convenience that allows the Department to be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”
