Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz proclaimed Jan. 22, 2004, “Professional Insurance Agents of New York State Inc. Insurance Day,” coinciding with the PIANY’s annual Metropolitan Regional Awareness Program (MetroRAP), held at the New York Marriott Brooklyn.
The PIANY returned the favor by naming Markowitz its “annual MetroRAP day official.”
“PIANY is honored by the recognition from Mr. Markowitz and continues to be pleased with the reception MetroRAP receives in Brooklyn,” stated MetroRAP Chair Harvey A. Leff, a resident of Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. “PIANY also wants to recognize past President Shelly Kozel who was instrumental in obtaining this ceremonial distinction.”
For the last three years, Brooklyn has hosted MetroRAP. Last year, nearly 500 insurance professionals attended the event. MetroRAP’s topics and education sessions are specific to the boroughs of New York.
“I am so pleased to honor New York’s professional insurance agents,” said Borough President Markowitz. “I welcome you to Brooklyn and know that with the support of your members we can tackle the tough insurance problems facing Brooklynites.”
MetroRAP offered the Brooklyn insurance community access to an industry trade show, numerous networking opportunities and informative education sessions. A highlight of this year’s MetroRAP was a keynote address by New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, who discussed his office’s plans to combat insurance fraud.
