Obviously Mr. Giuliani was only attempting to imply that he was at ground zero a lot. The reactions described in this article seem disproportionate.

i.e.: “He is such a liar…”, “On 9/11 all he did was run. He got that soot on him, and I don’t think he’s taken a shower since.”, “I think he was simply showing what his true character is _ a self-absorbed, self-deluded promoter who got caught and is now just simply trying to backtrack,”, “That’s all we need is another person trying to exploit the tragedy of 9/11,”

Why are these people so angry?

Because they know he has a pretty good shot at being President.

Policemen and firefighters are unionized, so it is not surprising they are against a Republican.

What personal freedoms has he taken away?

I’m not sure that’s fair. Take a step back and look at all GREAT things the Republicans have done while controlling the government. Oh what’s that, can’t see any? I thought so. People are angry because they just want reality. Everyone knows what really went on but he tried to feed them his fairy tale version. There are people who have died from breathing that stuff. You can’t expect them to stand by and not react.

What the Rudy supporters seem to forget is that they all couldn’t wait for him to be gone on 9/10. Then tragedy struck and he’s qualified to be president?
Don’t go into the “How many attacks have we had since 9/11” mode. There is plenty of evidence that had the administration paid just the slightest bit of attention in August of 2001 we might not have had ANY attacks in this country.

Why would anyone in the Republican party be so defensive of a cross-dressing philanderer? He does not in any respect represent the family values embraced by the party. And to those who feel that he should withdraw from the race, my only question is why would Rudy’s comments surprise you. The only thing the man has been running on is Terrorism and 9/11. He’s a one-man world savior–just ask him.

Don’t think for one minute that we couldn’t get hit every day. I’ve been through airport security several times since the attacks and I don’t feel safer at all. And Rudy is certainly not out there with his M-16 protecting us. Let’s not pin a medal on him yet. I don’t see where he’s done anything to protect anyone but himself.

Of course we could get hit at anytime. However, this administration has agressively protected us despite the ACLUs attempts to derail their efforts of monitoring those who are communicating with known terrorist organizations.

As for Rudy, he provided much needed leadership for NYC in a time of great need. Love him or hate him, he got real results in NYC.

The police, firemen, and city workers at ground zero are having trouble with their insurance claims pertaining to the toxic fumes they inhaled.

Rudy has been criticized for his role as mayor for the state of those workers based on the availability (or inavailability as it were) of proper equipment to deal with the cleanup.

Rudy’s comments could be interpreted by firemen, policemen, and city workers as trivializing their health related claims which for many are still pending.

The 9/11 Comission Report was proof read by a personal friend of George Bush. Let’s not be silly people.

If you like him, vote for him, but don’t complain when you have no civil liberties left. It won’t feel much like a democracy then.

ANY presidential hopeful MUST be held accountable for his statements. If Mu G is being deceptful now what will it be like if he gets in the White House?

Also talk to the millions of workers in Manhattan that were there on that fateful date. He closed the city and told the million plus workers to get out of my city. How, start walking. He closed the sbuways and told city bus drivers to geet the buses back to the garage. He was worried over them being damaged.

Mean while all workers from the outter boro’s, Long Island, Upstate, New Jersey and Conn. were forced to find their own way out of Manhattan.

If that is the sign of leadership just imagine how he would respond to a natural disaster. I can only say heaven help U.S. if he is elected.

    One who has been there.

How about the right to privacy. Now they don’t need a warrant to tap your phone. Anyone can be labeled as a terror suspect and there’s no reason for legal search. Pay attention to the laws being passed and tell me there’s nothing to fear. Perhaps instead of standing there waving your flag, you should be a real citizen. Try reading the paper or watching the news. PAY ATTENTION. Your rights are being written right out the window.

We all need to get along & be united in our Nation, no matter who gets elected President. If we show division in our people, we show other nations our vulnerabilities & leave ourselves open to ridicule. We as a nation should stand behind the decision of the majority. Those that vote CAN make a difference, but just because you do not vote doesn’t give you the right to make your own platform against the candidates or the ones voted into office, all it does is prove what an indignant person you are, that you would not take the time to vote, but want to run your head about the outcome….

As far as the article goes… it looks like RG wanted to express himself & make any comments that were misinterpreted better able to be understood, but some people do not accept someone’s response when they live in the negative. I am not a supporter of RG & I most likely will not vote for him, but I do have human compassion & understand when you try to say one thing & it comes out as if it were meant another way. The first thing you should do when you discover a mistake was made is to take immediate steps to correct it, so those that want to push this politically & not take into account the human aspect, good luck in finding a super hero to nominate for President, as I don’t see any of the current nominee’s as anything other than Humans… and as for the democratic party, none of their representatives strike me as being capable to run a country — what has any of them ran that did so great yet???? Use this opportunity to share if you think there is a democrat in the running that is worthy of American votes…
It might be interesting to see who you come up with & how many will find fault in his or her ways too!!!

John Edwards offered his own criticism of the former mayor. “That’s all we need is another person trying to exploit the tragedy of 9/11,” Edwards said while campaigning in Las Vegas. “What he ought to be talking about instead is trying to explain why the firefighters and the first responders didn’t have the equipment … to get the job done.”

In response to the above excerpt, HELLO??? Did anyone have the equipment to get that kind of Job done? Were we prepared in another city & that’s why the terrorists chose New York, because they were unprepared? I don’t think so… So John Edwards need to keep his mouth shut or he ends up looking like the idiot – or was he perhaps mis-quoted or mis-understood also?

Anyone making overly broad statements should be careful. Democrats and Republicans alike. Edwards should have definately not said that. But there is some truth to the fact that Rudy is riding the coat tails of 9/11. That’s all he talks about. Someone else had pointed out and it’s true that prior to 9/11, his approval rating was in the toilet. I’m not sure who would be a good president anymore but I know it’s not that guy.

You are absolutely right in that he is not the one, but we should all be a little more understanding about being mis-understood… As far as him riding the coat tails of 9/11, just because he talks about it? It could be that he has experienced something that was never expected & he did what he could to get through it & now he wants to share that experience… That’s not a bad thing in my book… even though he is not gonna get my vote for President, but definitely not a bad thing to share with others that were not up-close & personal with the aftermath as he was, as well as all the citizens & visitors in New York at the time.

9/11 is something that will not be forgotten, even if you were a thousand miles away… It touched the lives of every American to see such destruction & devastation. I think it was handled by the ones handling it in the best way they could fathom based on their circumstance and abilities, and instead of downing any of them, I salute them all!!!

He has imfringed upon the liberties of vandals, streetwalkers, and grafitti “artists” to deface and disgrace the streets of NY and civil culture generally. Since the very existence of the Democrat party platform disgraces and defaces our republic, the dems sympathize with the targets of Rudy’s law and order push. Birds of a feather, ya know?

Thanks for joining the conversation after it was already over. We were speaking of the government as a whole. Please pay attention to the current laws passed in the name of homeland security and you will see quite a few rights being tossed out the window in the name of fighting terrorism. I agree that we need to defend ourselves but it becomes a question of where you draw the line. Rudy is just another example of a politician more concerned with image than reality. He’s not alone in this and there are democrats that are guilty of this as well. If you read the remainder of the comments you’ll see the horse is dead, we’re all done beating it. Thanks!
