Layoffs at AIG’s 21st Century Insurance subsidiary were not big enough to require the company to warn Delaware officials.
The WARN Act requires employers to give notice of mass layoffs to the state and employees.
The AIG unit employs about 750 in Delaware. The layoffs were announced earlier this week, and the company did not say how many would be in Delaware, saying only the 7 percent reduction in staffing would be spread across the 21st Century’s 38 offices nationwide.
The division, which specializes in auto and home insurance, is jointly based in Wilmington and Woodland Hills, Calif.
