First Deputy Superintendent Kermitt Brooks is overseeing the New York State Insurance Department following the departure of Eric Dinallo.
Dinallo announced in May that he would be resigning as insurance superintendent to take a teaching position at New York University amid political speculation he would run for state attorney general.
Effective July 3, Brooks will serve as acting superintendent until Gov. David Paterson names him or a new person to the post.
Brooks was on the staff of former Attorney General Eliot Spitzer before joining the NYSID in 2007.
