Rhode Island is the latest New England state to launch an online system that lets businesses and consumers verify whether an organization has workers’ compensation insurance coverage.
The verification site is a partnership with the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) that links to a national database for workers’ compensation coverage by employer name or federal employer identification number.
Rhode Island’s neighboring states — Massachusetts and Connecticut — also offer online verification for workers’ compensation insurance.
In Massachusetts, verification has become a testy topic for some out-of-state insurers and agents who have clients that do business in the Bay State.
