Greenberg is a disgrace to the insurance industry. He is a poster boy for what is wrong with the US financial system. He operated a leveraged ponzi that benefited himself & his crony executives via salary & bonus which were unearned. When the true losses showed up, the US taxpayer was called upon to make good on them.
How much did Yale get paid or is being promised in return for this leadership award?
Mr. Greenberg is one of a few businessmen for whom I still have respect. He built AIG into the biggest insurance company in the world and was running it successfully until Eliot Spitzer went after the insurance industry and AIG and its management to fuel his ambition and political goals.
Dear my two cents-Why do you respect Greenberg? AIG might have been the biggest but is that a reason to respect Greenberg? Bank of America is one of the biggest but it is trading between 4 & 5 dollars a share, less than a Subway hero. Greenberg created the conditions @ AIG which facilitated Spitzer’s attack. This cannot be denied as anyone involved with Greenberg knew him to be a ruthless, hands on executive.
Greenberg is very ruthless. My daughter has been directly harmed by this man. He likes to squash the little guy. He started the financial collapse with his “visionary” policies.

Seriously!
No kidding – I guess lifetime leadership only means building an empire, not sustaining it long term?
