Va. Boy Sets Up Lemonade Stand to Help Pay Neighbor’s $500 Deductible

July 19, 2012

An 8-year-old Springfield boy who set up a lemonade stand to help his neighbors rebuild their home after it was damaged by a recent storm has surpassed his goal.

The Washington Post reports that Johnny Karlinchak has raised $500 for the family’s insurance deductible.

People who saw the story in the newspaper over the weekend also donated money, and on Monday evening Johnny raised an additional $214 to help the family.

The boy especially wanted to help the family’s dog, who lost her bed in the storm.

The neighbor’s house reportedly got damaged when a 60-foot oak tree had crashed through the structure during the June 29 derecho storm.
