Risk/Reward. $50 is too small a fine for such a big risk as distracted driving. I was behind someone this morning who was texting and driving. She was going 45 mph, then 25, then 45, then 25. Quite annoying. I finally was able to pass her, then I was worried she may crash into me.
I agree Jack. The fine should be in the neighborhood of $150-200 for the first offense. Second offense should be suspension of license for at least 3 months and mandatory completion of Defensive Driving course before being allowed to drive again. Texting is about the most dangerous thing a driver can do.
First offense should be permanent confiscation of the phone.Second offense they should paint them up to look like Muhommed and turn them loose in Garland.
