
Vermont Mutual Insurance Group announced that with the June 30 retirement of CEO William Catto, President Daniel Bridge will take on the chief executive role beginning July 1. In addition, current Senior Vice President Mark McDonnell will elevate to the number two position in the organization and partner with Bridge to lead the company.
Bridge and McDonnell each have approximately 30 years of insurance industry experience and have held a variety of leadership positions at national and regional carriers before joining Vermont Mutual. Both are located in the company’s Montpelier, Vermont, home office.
Chartered in 1828, the Vermont Mutual is one of the 10 oldest mutual property/casualty insurers in the U.S., having operated continuously since that time in Montpelier, Vermont. Along with its wholly owned subsidiary Northern Security Insurance Company Inc. and the affiliated Granite Mutual Insurance Company, Vermont Mutual provides coverage throughout New England and New York.
Through more than 500 independent agencies, Vermont Mutual insures approximately 285,000 policyholders with a direct written premium of more than $350 million.
