New Jersey’s Homeland Security Preparedness Office is asking officials to tell it when there are special events in their towns.
The request comes after a pipe bomb exploded before the start of a charity race in Seaside Park on Saturday.
The office compiles a statewide list of special events that is distributed to all law enforcement agencies to provide situational awareness and to assist in local planning requirements. The office says the list helps police better protect the public.
Special events include any event that attracts large numbers of people.
Authorities have charged Ahmad Khan Rahami with planting bombs in Seaside Park, Elizabeth and New York. He remains hospitalized after a shootout with police Monday.
