A Hudson Valley dentist acquitted earlier this year of fatally poisoning his ex-lover’s husband has been convicted of fraud and theft.
The Daily Freeman of Kingston reports an Ulster County Court jury on Tuesday found 49-year-old Gilberto Nunez, of Poughkeepsie, New York, guilty on all charges, including grand larceny, insurance fraud and falsifying business records.
The charges stemmed from an $8,400 insurance payment Nunez improperly received after a 2014 fire that destroyed a building he owned next to his dental office in Kingston. A sentencing date won’t be scheduled until a pending unrelated case is resolved.
In June, Nunez was found not guilty of murder charges in the 2011 poisoning death of 44-year-old Thomas Kolman, of Saugerties. Prosecutors claimed Nunez was having an affair with Kolman’s wife and wanted her husband out of the way.
