Other carriers have age discriminated as well. For people who are good, safe drivers and are on fixed income, this is an atrocious practice. The carriers should be watching the cell addicts and their driving practices and if they have an accident from distracted driving, surcharge them big time.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drivers 70 years and older account for approximately 9 percent of the U.S. population. However, these older drivers, who drive far less frequently than other age groups, still account for 12 percent of all traffic fatalities, 12 percent of all vehicle occupant fatalities, and 17 percent of all pedestrian fatalities.

    Agent,
If the figures that CalDude is reporting are in fact correct for drivers in the State of Maine, how can we justify not charging higher rates for the demographic? For all of my life young drivers have been charged higher rates due to age and experience based upon historical loss costs. If older drivers are having similar loss trends why should they not be treated in a similar manner?
