Maine Farmer Becomes Board Chair of The MEMIC Group

From broccoli to the board room, Lance Smith has cultivated a reputation for collaboration, hard work and common sense.

A partner in Smith’s Farm, the largest producer of broccoli and one of the largest growers of cauliflower in the East, Smith has become the sixth chair of the MEMIC Board of Directors.

Headquartered in Presque Isle, Smith’s Farm cultivates more than 8,000 acres of farmland between Maine and Florida. It’s a family-owned business that has been operating since 1859.

Smith has been a member of the workers’ compensation specialist’s board since 2012 and has served on the Executive Committee, Audit Committee, Governance & Nominating Committee and has chaired the Compensation Committee. He succeeds David Labbe of Kittery Trading Post, who was one of the founding board members of MEMIC.
