“…users affected….will receive…information on how to enroll in credit monitoring or enact a credit freeze…”

Alright. Here’s my old man rant about these data breaches. I’m sick of the only remedy being credit monitoring services or a credit freeze.

If you were impacted by the Yahoo breach, they gave you “x” years of these services. If you were impacted by Experian’s breach, they gave you “x” years of these services. If you were impacted by Capital One’s breach, they gave you “x” years of these services. If you were impacted by this breach, you’re given “x” years of these services.

That’s great these places are offering this service, but the monitoring time frames overlap.

I don’t need 4 different companies offering (say) credit monitoring services from 2019-2021. Maybe the monitoring protection could run concurrently and not simultaneously, so if each place was offering 2 years of credit monitoring services and I was impacted by 4 breaches, that would give me 8 years of protection instead of just 2?

Otherwise, a lot of these companies are getting off scot-free … I’m not going to sign up for credit monitoring paid by CT for the next 2 years if it’s already happening because I filed a claim with Experian.

    End old man rant.

I got all heated and didn’t proofread before hitting submit. I meant to say “Maybe the monitoring protection could run ****successively**** and not simultaneously…”

Why is not the default credit status as frozen? Why can’t there be a universal portal that allows us to simply release it for an authorized company? These credit services make money off of our personal info.

In theory it would be nice if we could set our credit to freeze and have a portal to log in and allow only authorized access, however the bad guys are gonna find a way into the portal and get the information they want……..

I have had clients that do put freezes on their credit. It can hamper trying to get transactions done quickly. Example we tried to issue a bond for a client and they need a personal credit check. They called to request the freeze be lifted so the carrier could run the check needed. It took about 4 days for it all to get lifted the carrier do their thing and the insured re-freeze. They originally requested the bond be done same day (which we could have if not for the freeze).

I wish I had an answer or solution to this issue!
