A fire in New Hampshire destroyed several apartment buildings Friday and displaced 12 families.
Manchester fire officials say that two multi-level apartment buildings were complete losses, WMUR-TV reported. Several surrounding buildings and several cars were damaged as well.
The fire was reported around 3:30 p.m. on Spruce Street between Beech and Maple streets.
Officials say everyone was safely evacuated from the buildings.
Manchester Fire Chief Dan Goonan said the initial fire jumped the building twice and was very difficult to contain.
WMUR reported that crews used so much water that the street flooded.
American Red Cross disaster responders are working with displaced families to provide food and other essentials.
