The Maryland attorney general is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred in Baltimore on the afternoon. of November 7
According to the state, officers with the Baltimore police department fatally shot an armed man in 2600 block of Wilkens Avenue in southwest Baltimore.
An initial review of body-worn camera footage shows the encounter began when the officers stopped their vehicle to talk with the man while in the 500 block of Brunswick Street. The man ran from officers to Wilkens Avenue. While running, the man displayed a gun and multiple officers discharged their firearms, shooting the man.
According to the attorney general’s office, a handgun with an extended magazine was recovered near the man and ballistic evidence recovered on the scene is consistent with the man having fired his gun. Officers called for emergency medical services and performed CPR. The man was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. One officer suffered minor injuries.
The attorney general has not yet released the video or names of the decedent and discharging officers.
Under Maryland law, the attorney general is required to investigate all police-involved fatalities.
