Eagle International Schedules Claims Handling Conferences in London, Paris

Eagle International Associates, an international network of insurance defense attorneys and claims adjusters throughout North America and Europe, has announced that it will be offering two unique conferences on the subject of international claims handling, one in Paris on Oct. 4 and 5, and another in London on Oct. 8.

The Paris conference has been designed to provide a comparative analysis of a number of issues involved in handling product liability claims in the U.S.A. and Europe. It will examine procedural, legal, and insurance issues, and will culminate in a mock trial based on a claim brought before a U.S. court. The conference, which will be held in the Sofitel La Defense Hotel, is free and will be in English with a simultaneous translation into French.

The topics to be addressed in Paris include the following: elements of a products liability case; evaluating defenses available in products liability case; using and challenging expert testimony; insurance issues in products liability litigation; jury selection in the USA; pre-trail discovery in products liability actions; and a mock trial.

The London conference has been designed to provide an explanation from USA and European perspectives of claims investigations through the settlement, including the use of expert evidence, forensic techniques and the problem of fraudulent claims. The conference will be held at Lloyd’s of London and has a fee of 100 pounds plus a VAT.

The topics to be addressed in London include the following: investigating the claim; the confidentiality of evidence; obtaining evidence in the course of proceedings in the USA; expert evidence in the USA; expert evidence from a European perspective; detecting and dealing with fraudulent claims; reconstructing the casualty: digital evidence; the insurers’ duties to a policy holder in the USA; the insurers’ duties to a policy holder in Europe; reinsurance issues for London underwriters; and paying the claim in the UK. The foremost legal experts in insurance defense as well as investigators and insurance industry counsels will address both conferences.
