May 4, 2011

The London office of Liberty International Underwriters in Europe (LIU Europe), a member of Liberty Mutual Group, announced that it is organizing a charity football match at Charlton Athletic’s Valley ground on Thursday May 19 at 3pm, in a bid to raise £10,000 [$16,525].

No, the participants will not be suiting up in full body armor for American style football, as LIU is sponsoring a soccer match.

“The two competing teams, organized by LIU Europe’s London Market Directors’ & Officers’ and Financial Institutions divisions, will pitch LIU Europe staff against each other as well as brokers from the D&O and FI markets,” said the bulletin.

“As well as playing for the footballing honors on the day and the specially mown ‘Turf Trophy’, the two teams will be competing to raise the most money for their nominated charities, the Teenage Cancer Trust (D&O) and the Make a Wish Foundation (FI).”

Organizer Emma Pearce, Vice President for D&O, commented “The competition is fierce but friendly and both teams are excited about outdoing each other. We have already enjoyed tremendous support from our trading partners with brokers and underwriters keen to get involved in the fundraising for two such worthwhile charities.”
