Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has named Paul Emerson as head of liability claims in Canada. Emerson comes to BHSI from the law firm of Clyde & Co Canada LLP.
“As an attorney with extensive experience handling casualty, executive and professional lines claims, Paul will play an integral role leading our liability claims operation in Canada, and will be a pivotal part of our product development, underwriting and customer relationship teams,” said David Crowe, chief claims officer, BHSI.
At Clyde & Co, Emerson specialized in coverage advice and litigation, commercial litigation and providing legal defense in professional and general liability claims. Emerson also provided claims handling advice and acted as claims monitoring counsel to a wide range of domestic and international insurers.
Prior to joining Clyde & Co, he was a member of the Chubb Insurance Company of Canada’s specialty claims department. He also practiced complex commercial litigation for six years at two prominent Toronto law firms. Emerson is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Advocates’ Society, Canadian Defence Lawyers and the Professional Liability Underwriting Society. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Western Ontario and his law degree from Queen’s University.
Emerson is based in the Toronto office of BHSI.
