Lloyd’s Chief Operating Officer Khoury-Haq to Leave the Corporation

November 21, 2018

Lloyd’s of London announced that its chief operating officer, Shirine Khoury-Haq, has decided to leave the corporation, after nearly five years.

Khoury-Haq joined Lloyd’s in 2014 and is a member of Lloyd’s executive committee. Her responsibilities include global operations, information technology, data, innovation, business transformation and corporate real estate.

She was the driving force behind the creation of the London market’s Tarket Operating Model (TOM) and, as its sponsor, worked with the market to design and deliver the first comprehensive program to digitize the London re/insurance market and make it easier to do business, said Lloyd’s in a prepared statement.

“I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Shirine for the role she has taken in delivering real change to the way the Lloyd’s market does business over the last five years,” said John Neal, chief executive officer at Lloyd’s.

“Having created the vision for the TOM, she built the consensus and momentum needed to deliver on its promise so that market firms are now seeing genuine benefits,” he added.

She was an “inspirational role model to women and the BAME [Black, Asian and minority ethnic] community in both the market and Corporation,” Neal went on to say. “She can take great credit for the progress made.”

Khoury-Haq will continue as COO and a member of the ExCo until she leaves during the first half of 2019, he said, offering his “sincere thanks and best wishes for the future.”

“Shirine has done a tremendous job in leading the modernization workstream for the London Market Group, and I would like to say thank you, on behalf of all our members, for her huge personal commitment to the challenge,” said Clare Lebecq, CEO of the London Market Group. “Making change happen is very tough and the fact that so many solutions are now coming on stream has much to do with her vision and tenacity in driving forward the work to make London an easier place to do business.”

“The last five years have been incredibly rewarding, working with colleagues in Lloyd’s and across the industry to deliver real digital change for the first time in decades,” said Khoury-Haq.

“Solutions have been designed and built that are transforming the way insurance is conducted in London. I’m delighted that the experiences I brought from effecting profitable and complex change in insurance and other industries have been helpful in delivering what we promised for London,” she continued.

“I have also been very lucky to work with two great CEOs, Inga Beale and John Neal, who have backed me both professionally and personally. We have made considerable progress in operations within Lloyd’s and the London Market TOM has been well adopted. So now, with Lloyd’s full support, this feels like the right time to look for the next challenge.”

Khoury-Haq’s departure date will be confirmed in due course.
