AGCS Names Mauthe Regional CEO for Germany, Central & Eastern Europe

March 1, 2019

Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE (AGCS), the industrial insurance unit of Allianz Group, has appointed Hans-Joerg Mauthe as regional CEO for Central & Eastern Europe (CEE). Based in Munich, he will be responsible for the German market and for AGCS’ activities in Austria, Switzerland and Eastern Europe from April 1, 2019.

Mauthe has played a key role in shaping developments in the CEE region for more than 13 years, initially as head of liability (since 2005) and later as head of market management (since 2011). Since 2012, he has been closely involved in the operational management of the region as deputy to the respective CEOs.

Mauthe started at Allianz in 1990 as a trainee in Frankfurt after completing his studies and then worked for many years as a liability underwriter. In 1997, he took over his first management tasks as team leader in Munich, where he was responsible, among other things, for the development of industrial liability business in Eastern Europe and Asia. In 2000, he became head of corporate liability, pure financial loss liability and directors and officers at Allianz in Frankfurt.

Mauthe holds a degree in administrative science from the University of Konstanz.

“The CEE region is the cornerstone on which AGCS has been built and deserves dedicated leadership which is exclusively focused on this important region,” said AGCS CEO Chris Fischer Hirs. “I am therefore delighted that Hans-Joerg, who knows this region better than anyone, is taking on the role of regional CEO.”

Mauthe said: “Central & Eastern Europe is an important region that has been my professional home at AGCS for many years. After years as deputy, I am delighted to now lead AGCS CEE as CEO, continuing to work together with my colleagues to support our clients and brokers across the region and internationally.”

The CEE region is a major part of AGCS’ global business, from which AGCS serves a large number of multinational and specialty clients, including providing insurance to 90 percent of all DAX 30 companies. This region is responsible for over 15 percent (€1.236 billion) of AGCS global revenues (totaling €8.2 billion in 2018).
