Another case of the the never ending class of permanently offended people. Glad I retired from the corporate insurance world years ago. HR and their lawyer backers are turning people into group think lemmings with this harassment crap. Get a sense of humor. What if she really did like the glazed doughnut? Just because one person interprets glazed in their own twisted, perverted way doesn’t mean everyone does.
Just like the phrase, “Act like you’re at church”. Do that.
I’ll continue to post this in the comments of every sexual harassment related article. Not at work is not arguable or subjective. Just stop being gross at work, be gross in your own time.
used to have a plaque hanging up that said, “Be sure brain is in gear before engaging mouth.”
I guess the same could apply to executives sending emails…
For an executive to send that email, and add others to it, is “WOW” worthy. You are risking throwing away your position, possibly your entire career, over a sexual donut joke? If I’m going to throw away my career, I at least want to stand up in a corporate meeting and say something to offend everyone equally. Make it worth it. Make it memorable and youtube worthy. A donut just doesn’t have that lifetime of memory feel to it….
The guy made a stupid comment and got suspended for it. He didn’t sexually assault anyone, didn’t use quid-quo-pro trades of sexual favors for employment gains. He isn’t exactly Harvey Weinstein.
You could find stupid people doing stupid things every month in nearly every large company in North America.
This is only a story so that Insurance Journal liberal article writers can push their MeToo bona fides, and so that Insurance Journal readers can fall for the Virtue Signaling trap and make obvious comments of “outrage”.
Wow! apparently your filter is pretty clogged. There are two kinds of abuse. Physical abuse and verbal abuse. Kudos to the company that suspended them. May make them think twice before they engage.
Aw, aren’t you to pusher of all things PC. So touching.
Get real. The guy made a stupid joke using no vulgar language at all, aimed at no one, and some woman decided to do the Offended Outrage Dance. And this is published in IJ why?
This is the most minor thing I have seen since the MeToo police decided that old-school morality and respect for women was suddenly a NEW IDEA! Where I grew up, respect for women was taught by ALL of our fathers. And we all followed it. No one started making graphically sexual comments in front of women until the Sexual Revolution decided that old-school chivalry was outdated and sexist.
And now, after all the liberal creeps were outed (what’s the score card now, 20 to 1 liberals to conservative creeps outed?), suddenly I am told MeToo found something new!
And stupid jokes in some office far far away is everyone’s concern? Nope. Not buying your BS. I don’t care that someone made a dirty joke in the office. Not at all.
You said, “The guy made a stupid joke using no vulgar language at all, aimed at no one, and some woman decided to do the Offended Outrage Dance.”
From the article that you either didn’t read or didn’t comprehend accurately:
“The male broker, a senior vice president, sent an email on Tuesday to multiple colleagues saying that he had brought in birthday doughnuts and that a female employee, mentioned by name, ‘enjoys a glazed ring.'”
Note the phrase, “mentioned by name”, indicating that it was aimed at a particular person. Care to admit that you were wrong?
Don’t forget the “no vulgar language” part either — preeeeeeety sure the definition of a “glazed ring” on urban dictionary will prove it’s a vulgar phrase

While I agree, I didn’t bring that up because the words “glazed” and “donut” are not inherently vulgar and could be defended. Saying that the joke was aimed at no one is blatantly, indefensibly false without ambiguity.

I was wrong. I skimmed the article.
But my main point is the same: who gives a damn about some stupid guy making a dumb joke? It isn’t rape. It isn’t sexual assault. It isn’t a quid pro quo for sexual favors.
Why do you or anyone else in the world care about some dumb guy making a dumb joke somewhere in the world that has nothing to do with you or anyone you know?
Unless you want to do some Virtue Signaling. Can you imagine this being a story in China? France? Mexico? Of course not. We are becoming petty fools in America.

Virtue signaling is good. If someone, you for example, has a long history of supporting sexual harassment, sexual assault, racism, dangerous anti-science positions, etc., by definition they have less virtue than people who don’t do that, and it should be pointed out, or signaled, so people know who the inferior people are and can remove them from society as much as possible, doing exactly what society is supposed to do instead of requiring the government to do it.
Virtue Signaling is empty morality. It is spouting whatever is the approved PC opinion without making any effort whatsoever to change things. “I believe in Peace” is about as meaningful as any comments on this page decrying the horrors of one simple, stupid joke.
Meanwhile, Virtue Signaling allows one to avoid taking responsibility for making a judgement about real suffering and injustice. V.S. allows people to feel good without doing a damn thing to solve any serious problem.

We’re glad too, or else there would most likely be 1 more harassment lawsuit out there.
Not. At. Work.

100% this
