Willis Re, the reinsurance subsidiary of Willis Towers Watson, announced the appointment of Simon Buxton as managing director of its International Customised Reinsurance practice, which focuses on non-traditional reinsurance.
Buxton will focus on providing structured solutions across all the company’s geographic regions in all non-life and life classes of business.
Buxton brings 20 years’ experience in reinsurance including roles as head of Structured Reinsurance at XL Financial Solutions and Allianz Risk Transfer, as well as global head of Treaty and Facultative at Allianz Global Corporate and Specialty (AGCS). He worked at AGCS for more than 10 years, according to his LinkedIn profile. Buxton is a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries UK.
Reporting to Tony Melia, CEO of Willis Re International, Buxton will be based in London and lead Willis Re’s development in the fast-expanding customized reinsurance arena across the international region. He will work closely with James Mounty, who leads the wider global practice, and in partnership with Willis Towers Watson’s consulting teams.
“The search for optimal, customized reinsurance solutions to secure capital and earnings resilience, often across both assets and liabilities, is increasingly at the top of our clients’ strategic agendas,” said Melia. “I have always admired Simon’s skills and professionalism, and I’m confident that his experience and proven expertise in the often complex alternative risk transfer field will significantly enhance the capabilities of our Customised Reinsurance practice.”
