The impact from the the strong (magnitude 7.0) earthquake that occurred Sept. 7 near Acapulco City, Mexico is expected to be moderate, with insured losses of about $200 million, according to catastrophe modeling firm Karen Clark and Company.
KCC estimates that total losses—for insured and uninsured residential, commercial, and industrial buildings—will be around $900 million.
The Impacts are expected to include some structural damage to hotels and other buildings. Major structural damage has not been reported, although there have been some instances of collapsed masonry walls.
According to KCC, power outages affecting more than a million people have been reported throughout the region, including scattered outages in Mexico City.
