Sedgwick Acquires Belgian Engineering Consultancy ABESIM B.V.

December 3, 2021

Sedgwick, a global provider of technology-enabled risk, benefits and integrated business solutions, announced it has acquired ABESIM B.V. in Belgium.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition of ABESIM will enhance Sedgwick’s existing business in Belgium, EFI Global, which specializes in forensic engineering, environmental, fire investigation and specialty consulting services, said Sedgwick, noting that the transaction represents an important step in establishing the presence of EFI Global in Belgium and consolidating its presence in continental Europe in support of its regional growth plans.

ABESIM is a Belgium-based engineering consultancy focused on soil contamination diagnostics and management. ABESIM’s soil contamination experts across Belgium assist project managers on both small and large projects involving drilling, sampling, drone flying, asbestos sampling, geotechnical field and laboratory testing, and groundwater flow modelling. While most Belgian firms in this space use independent contractors, all of ABESIM’s professionals are company employees.

ABESIM will provide EFI Global with a solid base in continental Europe, upon which it can grow in the various EU markets, said Sedgwick.

“This acquisition will help us to improve our operations and strategic positioning — not just in Benelux, but across the whole of the EU,” said Dirk Clement, director of Sedgwick in Belgium. “With the help of Johan L’Ecluse and his team from ABESIM, we can certainly improve our property and environmental loss adjusting services in the region. We look forward to capturing future growth opportunities and diversifying our customer base.”

“By combining Sedgwick’s global resources, EFI Global’s focus on environmental solutions and our extensive local sector expertise, we will have the scale and capabilities to meet the growing demand for specialized soil contamination claims management and drive growth in Belgium and further afield,” commented Johan L’Ecluse, founder of ABESIM.

Founded in 1969, Memphis-based Sedgwick now employs nearly 30,000 colleagues, located across 65 countries.
