SiriusPoint Taps AIG’s Gibson as International Chief Underwriting Officer
SiriusPoint Ltd., the Bermuda-based specialty insurer and reinsurer, announced the appointment of Eleanor Gibson as international chief underwriting officer, effective May 6, 2025.

Based in London, Gibson will report to Rob Gibbs, president & chief executive officer, SiriusPoint International, and Anthony Shapella, group chief underwriting officer. She will be responsible for providing strategic leadership to the underwriting and portfolio management teams across SiriusPoint International, driving profitable growth and performance.
Gibson has 30 years of industry experience, joining SiriusPoint from AIG where she was credit Lines chief underwriting officer with responsibility for global commercial underwriting in trade credit, trade finance, political risk, and surety run-off.
Prior to AIG, Gibson worked at Tokio Millennium Re, Lloyd’s, Radian, Merrill Lynch International, Rhine Re Financial, Bankers Trust International, and at R.J. Kiln & Co., where she started her career.
Gibson’s appointment follows the recent announcement that James Anderson has been named global chief pricing actuary. Gibson will join SiriusPoint on May 12, 2025.

Howden Appoints McLaughlin From Chaucer to Lead Howden Re Miami
Howden, the global insurance intermediary group, announced the appointment of April McLaughlin as managing director, Howden Miami.

McLaughlin will establish a new presence for Howden Re in Miami and will integrate and grow Howden’s existing specialty insurance businesses for the benefit of clients in the wider Latin American and Caribbean region.
In this newly created role, McLaughlin will lead Howden Re Miami, which will offer treaty and facultative solutions as Howden Re continues its strong trajectory of international expansion and growth.
McLaughlin will also take responsibility for Howden’s existing specialty operations in the region, which covers Central America and the Caribbean, and plays a fundamental role in connecting international markets with Latin America. By working across Howden’s insurance and reinsurance pillars, McLaughlin will leverage the combined expertise of the group.
With a distinguished background in underwriting focused on treaty and facultative reinsurance, McLaughlin joins Howden with over 25 years of insurance industry experience. Since 2020, McLaughlin held the role of head of Chaucer’s Latin America hub facilitated by Orchid Underwriting, and was previously head of Latin America Reinsurance at AXA XL (previously Catlin) from 2015.
McLaughlin will report to Sonia Caamaño, CEO, International Growth Markets, and Mario Baotic, head of International Growth Markets, International Treaty, Howden Re. Max Scagnetti, currently managing director Specialty, Howden Miami, will assume the role of executive advisor for Miami and LatAm, whilst still reporting to Caamaño.
“Miami offers a strategic platform that will allow us to deliver reinsurance solutions and to support global clients with operations in the region,” commented Baotic. “April’s appointment represents a key step in our commitment to developing treaty capabilities in Miami, positioning us to offer even greater value to our clients and partners.”
McLaughlin will join Howden once she has fulfilled her contractual obligations to her current employer.
