The Kansas and Iowa Houses have both passed insurance licensing bills that appear to meet the reciprocity provisions of the federal Gramm-Leach-Bliley act but do not contain exemptions for customer service representatives.
Iowa SB 276 now goes to Gov. Tom Vilsack for his signature while Kansas SB 123 has to return to the Senate for concurrence in a technical amendment.
“We would rather have customer service employees specifically exempted from the licensing requirements of both bills,” Insurers Counsel Ann Weber said. “However, we will work with the Insurance Departments in both states to address this issue.”
