Missouri Working on Directive on Workers’ Comp Loss Control

July 27, 2001

Representatives of the insurance industry and the state workers’ compensation division met July 23 to discuss implementation of a new law that would significantly reduce requirements for insurers to report their loss control services.

Workers Compensation Director Larry Leip told the group he was working on a directive to implement Senate Bill 521, which Gov. Bob Holden signed into law earlier this month.

National Association of Independent Insurers (NAII) Counsel Ann Weber said the new law was good for both employers and their insurers because it eliminated the expense of mandatory quarterly reporting to the state all loss control services they provided to all employers that are their customers. Instead, insurers now will have to report only those services provided in response to a request from an employer.

Arlene Ryndak, NAII manager of loss control, Weber and several insurance company representatives met with Leip and some of his staff to discuss implementing the new law.

According to the NAII, Ryndak has spearheaded several workplace safety workshops that the insurance industry has held or is planning in conjunction with the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in Florida, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Texas.
