Progressive.com Honored in WebAward Competition

October 2, 2002

Progressive.com, the Web site of Ohio-based Progressive, has been named as “Best Insurance Website” in the Web Marketing Association’s (WMA) 2002 WebAward Competition.

The award was based on an expert panel’s review of more than 1,300 sites, judging criteria included “innovation, navigation, interactivity, content, ease of use and usefulness to target audience.” Last year, progressive.com received a “Standard of Excellence” WebAward.

“The WMA, founded in 1997, helps to set a high standard for Internet marketing and corporate Web development on the World Wide Web and is made up of Internet marketing, advertising, PR and design professionals from around the country. The WebAward program recognizes the achievement of Web professionals who create and maintain outstanding corporate sites,” said the bulletin.

Toby Alfred, site manager, of Progressive.com, stated “We are honored to receive the Best of Industry award from the WMA. They understand Web sites and have seen the best of the best. To be selected to be part of that elite group is a thrill.”

He stressed the hard work that had gone into making the site so successful, indicating that automobile coverage – Progressive is the U.S. 4th largest auto insurance provider -“can be complex and difficult to understand.” The site gives consumers an increased ability to “better understand and manage their auto insurance,” Alfred explained. “Consumers can also use the site to get comparison rates and save money on their auto insurance, even if it’s not with us.”

The company’s announcement pointed out that “Progressive.com’s home page features a “rate ticker” that displays an up- to-the-minute sampling of comparison rates provided to consumers across the country using Progressive’s online service.” It was the first auto insurance Web site to offer services that help consumers better understand the range of rates available to them from leading companies, Alfred noted.

“The rate ticker gives visitors an opportunity to see just how much rates can vary so they’ll get inspired to shop around,” he continued. “Content like the rate ticker is one reason progressive.com was awarded the Best Insurance Website designation by the WMA and why the site has also been named “#1 Insurance Carrier Web Site” six times in a row by Gomez, Inc., the Internet quality measurement firm. Gomez has also ranked the site number one in the “Ease of Use” category four consecutive times, “Best Site for Auto Buyers” five consecutive times and, in the most recent rating period, the site was ranked number one in “Relationship Services.”
