Kan. Storm Losses Exceed $215 Million

August 4, 2003

Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger said the 2003 storm season in Kansas produced more than $215 million in losses of insured property and crops during April through June.

“We saw a lot of damage in a relatively short amount of time,” said Commissioner Praeger. “Unfortunately, I expect the loss estimate to increase when we receive reports for the month of July.”

Statewide property damage estimates for the month of June are $83 million, while crop damage for the month is estimated at $5 million.

“For the most part, I’m pleased with how insurance companies have responded to consumers’ losses,” Praeger said.
