A new report released by the Michigan Office of Financial and Insurance Services aims to give consumers a better understanding of their rights with regard to auto repair under the state’s no-fault policy.
The report, Auto Repair Rights Under a Michigan No-Fault Policy (PDF), explains the provisions of newly enacted Public Act 190 of 2004, which clarifies a consumer’s auto repair rights. The act can be accessed online as well (PDF).
“This publication will help consumers understand what their rights are — especially as they pertain to the selection of a repair facility,” OFIS Commissioner Linda Watters said in a statement. “Drivers frequently ask if they have to use a repair facility selected by their insurance company or if they can take their cars elsewhere for repair work and still have it paid by their insurance company. This publication answers that question and many others.”
