Zurich, one of the nation’s largest property/casualty insurance companies, announced that Richard J. Law Jr., 46, has joined its North American operations as president of Zurich Small Business. He will work from the company’s Baltimore office. Law replaces Ray Thomas, who is retiring.
Law will report to John Lynch, Head of U.S. Small Business for Zurich, and will be responsible for developing and executing small business strategy, including sales, marketing and distribution. Zurich defines small businesses as those employing 50 people or less.
Law most recently served as vice president in the Risk Management Division for Hartford Financial Services Group where he managed national and major accounts and specialty construction operations. His entire 24-year career has been with Hartford.
From 2000 until 2004, Law was senior vice president for Field Operations, Sales and Marketing for small commercial business. From 1998 to 2000, he was vice president of the Select Customer Business Unit in small commercial business. In his first 11 years with Hartford, Law held positions of increasing responsibility in the area of casualty underwriting, beginning in the Baltimore regional office.
