Quadrant Unveils Monoline Third Party Harassment and Discrimination Product

February 23, 2006

Columbus, Ohio-based Quadrant Insurance Managers has introduced a new primary coverage to the marketplace – monoline third party harassment and discrimination coverage.

This product covers businesses for discrimination, harassment and wrongful eviction committed by an employee against a customer and/or member of the public. Small to mid-size businesses with high public/customer interaction such as hospitality, banking, restaurant, retail, higher education and health care are some of the targeted industries.

Gender identity, obesity & physical appearance are just a few of the emerging issues in discrimination and harassment claims along with the more familiar cases involving religion, race, sex and nationality. Lawsuits involving national chain restaurants are well known and publicized. However, smaller businesses are also targets for discrimination and harassment claims and they may experience difficulty in getting coverage.

“Many insurers who do offer third party protection are restricting their coverage to certain classes of businesses,” said Mark Harris, president and CEO of Quadrant. “Fear is driving insurers to stop offering this coverage. Some have been hit hard from EPL and are reluctant to cover third party exposure in their EPL in businesses where they perceive a big risk – especially small to mid-size prospects with high customer contact.”

The Quadrant monoline third party harassment and discrimination product will offer a stand-alone policy with minimum premiums beginning at $5000 for a single location carrying a $1 million aggregate limit of liability. Punitive damages (where insurable) and defense costs are included in the limits, and the insurer is rated A by A.M. Best.

Quadrant predicts that this product will allow more businesses in public-oriented industries to secure affordable third party harassment/discrimination insurance.
