To paraphrase your comment \’freedom of choice ends where that choice negatively impact insurance costs.\’ In that case you better work on banning tobacco, alcohol, , and you should seriously look at outlawing bacon.

First of all, being from Michigan, and having developed a testing model for traumatic brain injury as a result of a MVA or in this case a Motorcycle accident, the travesty is that most individuals are only aware of what it is they percieve as being a liability to the perverbial \’insurance company\’. The numbers quoted in this article are correct and the negotiations that have been laboriously deliberated within the blinded and myopic democrats(conveniently in an election year) with the diversified conservative republicans as well as those that continue to recogize the theory of \’a hand up instead of a hand out\’,are consistently parallel in effort but not in prowess. This issue is not about personal choice, this issue is about having to pay for insurance whether or not you drive a car or a motorcycle, and that in within a no-fault state, the excessive amount of money that is expended for legitimate claims and more so illegitimate claims, is simply perpetuated by the personal injury attorneys and uninformed citizens, quite similar to the comments that I read this evening.
Drive safe and I hope to meet you in Sturgis…pick your battle\’s wisely.

The reserve adjustments made by insurance companies for this type of helmetless accident will have less than 1/1000th of a percent of impact to surplus. Get a clue.

As an adult, I choose to ride without a helmet, safely by the way, and watch out for the bad drivers (likely you) who end up killing thousands of cyclists every year by not paying attention or sharing the road with motorcyclists. It\’s a fact of life people will get hurt by doing inherently dangerous activities. Talking on the cell phone while driving is inherently dangerous. When is the last time Gary used a cell phone while driving? I bet he\’s first in line to pass legislation banning all cell phone use in all vehicles. That hurts the bottom line too you know.

Keep giving up your freedoms for the almightly dollar Gary. Way to go. Ride on

If you don\’t want to wear a helmet for safety reasons, then sign a DOR and a waiver that tax payer\’s will not be responsible to keep you alive. Then enjoy the road all you like.

Why let the insurance companies control our freedom of choice?…… Until your 25 u pay a \”high risk\” rate even though u may have a perfect driving record and they say why should everyone have to pay higher insurance rates for bikers who choose not to wear a helmet. Why do we pay a higher rate for being younger. Its a sterotype and its wrong. I am an american and i am suposed to have freedom of choice uninfluenced by anyone(excpecial by corperate america). It is the riders choice about his or her safety, it is our choice on weather or not to wear a helmet. We are losing more and more of our freedoms. Its time to stop letting big buisness deciding what we can or can not do

I would favor a provision disqualifying helmetless driver\’s from receiving No-Fault PIP benefits. If a rider wants the freedom to ride without a helmet, I want the freedom not to pay for his injuries when he crashes in an accidnet involving a motor vehicle.

Rob, I would accept that trade off.

Share the road with all vehicles!! That\’s the solution. Inattentive drivers that cause these motorcycle accidents should be charged with a felony regardless if they wer owi or not. That might force people to share the road with motorcycles.

I agree that inattentive drivers should be cited. Motorcyclist should also be cited for splitting lanes and driving recklessly. It\’s a two way street!

Motorcyclists are ticketed for reckless driving. Lane splitting is not always \”reckless.\” It is legal in California. It can help reduce traffic congestion. Maybe we can start on changing that law after the helmet law is reformed.
