A suspended executive at North Dakota’s workers compensation agency is running for the state Senate.
Democratic activists in central North Dakota’s District 14 endorsed James Long to oppose incumbent Republican Jerry Klein of Fessenden.
Long is chief of support services at Workforce Safety and Insurance. He was suspended from his job in November. He believes he was put on leave for pointing out questionable practices at the agency.
Long says his primary campaign issue will be eradicating corruption in state government. He says he’ll also concentrate on raising pay for schoolteachers and addressing the state’s nursing shortage.
District 14 includes Wells and Kidder counties, most of rural Burleigh County and the southern half of Sheridan County. It is heavily Republican. Klein is a Fessenden grocer who was first elected to the Senate in 1996.
