The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has released $85 million to help Iowa recover from record flooding.
The agency and the offices of congressmen Dave Loebsack, Leonard Boswell and Bruce Braley announced Monday that the money would be in the form of Community Development Block Grants to be used for neighborhood revitalization, housing rehabilitation and economic development projects. Iowa Sens. Tom Harkin and Charles Grassley also issued statements announcing the funding.
The money is part of the $2.65 billion in disaster relief approved by Congress in June for states affected the floods.
The congressmen wrote letters to the agency’s director asking that the aid be released immediately, saying the communities affected by the flooding need the help now.
