The director of Minnesota’s Medicaid program says the state has two weeks to persuade federal Medicaid leaders to stop a plan that would cut off coverage for 18,000 Minnesota parents.
State Medicaid Director Christine Bronson says the cuts would affect families who get Medicaid coverage supplemented by the state children’s health insurance program, which is known as SCHIP.
Bronson says the two-week extension given by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is a good sign. She says it shows the agency is open to at least thinking about different solutions.
Bronson says the state is waiting to see if the situation can be resolved before notifying families.
This week, two emergency bills were introduced in Congress to extend Minnesota’s Medicaid waiver until next spring.
