The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is giving monies to several Midwestern states in the aftermath of flooding earlier in the year.
Missouri received $11 million to help recover from flooding damage earlier this year. Flooding in May and June in Missouri prompted two presidential disaster declarations.
The federal agency announced Monday that 15 states have been awarded block grants because of natural disasters throughout the year. The funds can be used for long-term recovery and infrastructure needs.
Indiana communities hit by severe storms and floods last summer also will get another $57 million in federal aid to rebuild, Gov. Mitch Daniels said Monday.
The storm aid from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development brings the state’s total to $67 million, on top of $10 million the agency had previously awarded the state.
Daniels said the funding would be used to cover the costs of rebuilding infrastructure and reducing future flood damage.
Neighboring Iowa got the most at $72 million, and Illinois was awarded $17 million. Five of the eight states bordering Missouri received money through the federal housing grants.
