The state of Michigan has filed insurance claims with insurance carriers for all three vehicles involved in a tanker explosion that destroyed an overpass on Interstate 75 north of Detroit.
Michigan’s attorney general is representing the Michigan Department of Transportation in the case.
Spokesman John Sellek told The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens the $3,394,000 sought is “based on the cost of the cleanup and the cost to rebuild that bridge in 2008.”
Twenty-seven-year-old Saied Haidarian Shahri of Clawson paid a $150 fine after police cited him for speeding and said he caused the crash that resulted in a July 15 explosion.
Sellek said under Michigan’s no-fault insurance law, culpability is not a factor and the three vehicles’ involvement is enough to warrant the claims.
