The Minnesota Department of Public Safety is estimating that the spring flooding caused about $14 million in damage in the state.
Teams of officials from the state and the Federal Emergency Management Agency came up with the number after meeting with officials from 23 Minnesota counties.
They reviewed the cost of flood preparations and inspected damage to public infrastructure.
FEMA will use the information to determine whether a federal disaster declaration should be declared for Minnesota. If one is declared, the federal government will pay 75 percent of the cost to repair damage to infrastructure including roads and bridges, clean up and other expenses.
The damage estimate was released April 2.
